Background & Bio
Mr. Hurtt graduated from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas with a business degree in 1969 and received his commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program. After some graduate studies, with a delayed entry into the Army, Mr. Hurtt decided to learn the oil and gas business. Starting from the bottom up, Mr. Hurtt worked for the Noble Drilling company as a rough neck and then on an off shore electric logging crew for Dresser Atlas until he entered the Army as a platoon leader and battalion officer.
He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974 and then honorably discharged from the Army reserves as a captain in 1976. Returning to Wichita, Mr. Hurtt became an owner-manager of a multi-site restaurant chain called Yankee Clipper. In 1980, when oil prices peaked at $40 per barrel and Mr. Hurtt’s restaurant chain was sold, he returned to the oil and gas industry.
The marriage of Atlantis Oil & Gas and Progas and geologist, Pat Robinson, with leases obtained in Jim Wells County (the highest producing oil and gas county in the state of Texas) presents an opportunity with limitless possibilities for financial return and tax benefits.
